A basic understanding of project management is becoming increasingly important for new engineers. Such knowledge enables them to contribute immediately to their employers, and to advance in their careers.
In addition to a strong engineering background there is a significant need for engineers to understand the fundamentals of managing projects in order to effectively participate as members of project teams. Students who successfully complete the requirements for a minor will have the accomplishment noted on their transcript.
Requirements
"Applications for the minor must be approved and processed at least one year prior to the students expected date of graduation."
Undergraduate students - including those enrolled in the Civil & Environmental Engineering major - are eligible to enroll in this minor if they are a junior in good standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Two of the five courses can count toward the students major but the other three must be in addition to the requirements for the major. There is no major in the area of project management for undergraduates.
Undergraduate students should complete the five following courses, or approved alternatives, with a grade “C” or higher:
• ENCE 320 Introduction to Engineering Project Management
• ENCE 421 Engineering Contracts
• ENCE 422 Project Cost Accounting & Economics, and
• ENCE 423 Project Planning, Scheduling and Control
• ENCE 425 Decision Analysis
