e-Construction is the application of information technology, especially e-commerce techniques, to the field of construction engineering and project management in order to improve the whole process of construction enterprise. This includes the application of web-based project management systems, enterprise resource planning, site work automation and robotics, automated data collection and processing, and computer-based integration of project management information.
The e-Construction Group is a part of the Project Management Program, in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, A. James Clark School of Engineering, at the University of Maryland, College Park.
The mission of e-Construction Group is threefold: to conduct research in the cutting-edge of construction engineering and project management and to apply advanced information technology and emerging managerial concepts to refine the principles and practices in the construction industry; to advance technological innovation and state-of-the-art management techniques toward practical application to support business objectives by collaborating with industry partners; and to prepare a new generation of excellent researchers and construction industry leaders.
